What we feed our chinese crested puppies at Sakkarra up to 8 weeks

This is what we feed our Sakkarra Afghan Hound and Chinese Crested puppies:

Puppy food schedule

Puppy feeding at 3 weeks:

HAM baby food from jar with boiled water and a bit of Rice flakes (NOT OATMEAL) in baby food section Kroger/Walmart, make loose paste add a few drops Karo. More red than pink- so more meat. Just use GERBER meats(blue label) ham, beef chicken- nothing else. 3x a day.
NEEDS to be moist. USE boiled water so they can start water intake too.
Even Blue dog food canned seemed to give diarreah - so stayed with human baby food for cresteds this age- as many do not have teeth until 4 weks or on...and under a pound- cannot afford dehydration

Chinese Crested Puppy Feeding at 4-5 weeks

Boil some water, add to fatty hamburger 73/27% just enough to make grey squish (NOT firm kernels that puppies that puppies can choke on)- drain most of the water- will be a pink mud. Add a few drops of Karo syrup and some Gerbers meat. NEEDS to be moist.

Chinese Crested Puppy Feeding at 5 weeks

Soften regular kibble food to "fluff" by adding boiling water, then add in above minus baby foods/Rice flakes. This is accomplished once the water cools and is absorbed making the dog food expand for easy digestion a young dogs.

Chinese Crested Puppy Feeding at 6 weeks

Soften food with hot water, and then gradually add less water over time  until the puppies are eating the  kibble without water added.

The puppies need to eat normally to strengthen teeth.  The gum tissue needs that stimulation chewing kibble be healthy and to maintain proper hygiene.  A diet purely based on soft food will be detrimental to your growing puppy's oral health and could lead to premature periodontal disease and early tooth loss. It is important, especially with Chinese crested puppies, to not only feed soft food.  The Chinese crested has enough challenges in this  department genetically as it is.

Yes, I realize some people just soften kibble at first and then on. This is what we have done for 20 years through various breeds- and it seems to work as we have been lucky and never had a problem with weight or lack of calcium/bone etc.

Chinese Crested Puppy Feeding at 8 weeks

8-10 weeks should be on regular food with added carrot shavings, tiny pieces of fruit, properly cut meat to avoid choking, veggies, cottage cheese/goat's milk

This is what has worked for us, really been very lucky a good bone and shiny coats on our dogs. we only had one litter of Afghan hounds in 13 years, and that was three years ago,  with the recipe has not changed. The only change  is quantities depending on the dog breed.

Welcome to my blog and hopefully we can take this journey together where we left off

Well, hello again! It's been a busy couple of years at the plate for the perfect blog post, and when you wait for perfection time flies by. Time is precious, so instead I am going to update weekly is more of a learning journey this beautiful breed named the Chinese crested- instead of waiting for the perfect brag, win, or picture.
Welcome to my blog and hopefully we can take this journey together one of the friendliest and warmest companions and a woman can have - the Chinese crested dog.
I have been taking educational courses in microbiology,  Useful Genetics, and Canine Therogenology for Dog Enthusiast (University of Minnesota). I  enrolled in a few  upcoming courses next month such the University of Melbourne's Animal Behavior. I think education in any area that you're interested in is a smart move.
In the past  few years I I've been a full-time freelance writer and illustrator, to further my lifelong dreams and passion  for a life of creativity. After working in a dental lab as a ceramist ( glorified tooth fairy!) for over a decade under a microscope, I look forward to everyday as an opportunity to create and hopefully and impart information, comedy, and a few smiles with this blog.
My days are full, doesn't seem to be enough hours! I can be found usually in the studio creating art surround about my whimsical little creatures - my cresties!  We have a few exciting puppies that we are looking forward to show in the fall or early 2014.

Thanks so much for visiting !
